The European Union put in place the “energy plan”. Its main missions are to guarantee the interconnection of energy networks between the Member States, to ensure the continent's security of supply, to promote energy efficiency, to develop renewable energies as well as research and innovation.
The objective is to find solutions to limit our dependence on fossil fuels. We know that these energies generate colossal pollution in terms of CO2 emissions. So-called clean energies must be developed to progress in the energy transition. According to an agreement concluded between the Member States in 2014 (before COP21), these clean energies must have reached a share of 27% in European consumption by 2030 - a target raised to 32% in 2018. But this is considered insufficient by the vast majority of NGOs and environmental officials. It is therefore necessary to raise the objectives, if the EU approves the objective of carbon neutrality by 2050 as proposed by the European Commission.
It is also necessary to increase European investments in research and development. Europeans are indeed seeking to develop key sectors such as renewable energies, energy storage and electric batteries. These are important areas for the years to come.

Exploitations that through of a intake work, capture a part of the circulating flow through out the river and lead it to the power station to be turbined. Later, this flow is returned to the riverbed. These plants are characterized by having a practically constant useful head, and a highly variable turbine flow, depending on the hydrology. Therefore, in this type of exploitation, the installed power is directly related to the flow that passes through the river. Divert part of the flow through a channel or pipe to a loading chamber; from this part a forced pipe that leads the water to the turbine. This is located in the plant building together with the electric generator and auxiliary elements. Finally, a discharge channel returns the water to the river bed.

Base innovation - Cogen'air
Base innovation is a company specializing in thermovoltaic technology. Indeed, it has developed a 100% French photovoltaic panel which produces hot air in addition to electricity while having a thermal efficiency higher than its electrical efficiency. The heat is then extracted and used for heating or drying. The air circulating on the back of the panels prevents the cells from overheating and in fact improves their electrical efficiency.

Seawater energy
This wave power plant was inaugurated in July 2011 and is the first wave plant in Europe to commercialize the energy it generates. It has 16 compressed air turbines that generate a power of 296 KW. The turbines work with an "oscillating water column" technology, based on the creation of air currents by changing the water level in a chamber thanks to the movement of the waves. The Mutriku city council and the EVE (Basque Energy Agency) offer guided tours of the plant in order to bring this technology closer to society.
