The European Union has one of the densest transport networks on the planet. Transport generates significant consumption of resources (fossil carbon, materials, etc.). They are also the source of air, water and soil pollution. All that has an effect on ecosystems and therefore biodiversity. Indeed, transport emits greenhouse gases and affect the ozone layer and disrupt biodiversity (noise and light pollution and fragmentation of ecosystems). It also causes a marked change in landscapes, becaming a real problem for our planet.
The European Union has to make a change in its management of transport. The "Transport 2050 towards a single European transport space" program was then created in 2011. It promises, among other things, to reduce the Union's carbon emissions linked to transport by 60% by 2050. Changes must be carried out in order to limit pollution linked to transport, like the examples below :
In the city:
-
Encourage the use of bike or other light electric vehicles
-
Maximize the uses of cars: eco-sharing, rental, carpooling, eco-driving
-
Facilitate the use of public transport
-
Improve electric vehicles: infrastructure, production, services
Long distance journeys:
-
Develop the rail network
-
Develop bus travel in European territories
Sea transport:
-
Decarbonize current means of transport, optimize logistics to limit sector emission
Finally, it is also essential to support R&D for energy optimization and the decarbonisation of mobility: infrastructure, means of transport, new technologies (battery, hydrogen, etc.).

SmartDriving
The Technological Institute of Aragon ITAINNOVA presents this project developed for the Grupo Sesé company, an innovative solution aimed at drivers and traffic managers. It is an intelligent real-time driving assistant for road transport. The optimization of transport, the safety of merchandise and drivers or the reduction of the carbon footprint are some of the problems that logistics companies face. The objective of this Intelligent Transport System aims to reduce these problems by showing recommendations to drivers and helping the truck traffic managers of these logistics companies to make decisions.
